Can someone explain how the cycling competeions in the Commonwealth Games work?
In one they all just ride around in a group and get points- I don’t get it. Please explain all the cycling contests for me or provide a link so I can find out. Thanks
I know I spelt competitions wrong! Can we please get a spell check when asking questions?!
Answer
It sounds like you’re talking about the points race on the track.
The points race works like this. Competitors will ride around the track for a set number of laps. At regular intervals, there are designated sprint laps in which the riders score points based on who crosses the line first, second, and so on. The winner of the event is not the rider who crosses the line first, but instead, the rider who has scored the most points in the event.
Note however that the race is scored on points and laps. Since taking a lap on the field tends to be commonplace, they keep score based on both categories, with laps taking precedence. If a number of riders have all taken a lap, the points between those riders will determine the placings.
The Commonwealth Games themselves are a sort of Olympic type of competition between the countries that comprise the Commonwealth (countries like Great Britain, Australia, Canada, and so on).
