The Zone Diet

There are a lot of diet programs designed to address what you are eating and how much to eat, all of them concerned with the number of calories you take and the type of food that you eat. The Zone diet is one of these popular diet programs that help you control the amount of calories you take, but with a twist. Created by Dr. Barry Sears, the goal of this program is to help you lose weight by addressing hormones that are responsible for fat retention.
The Zone diet insists that advocates of this diet should watch just how much calories they take in per meal. Followers must follow a diet plan that will give them 500 calories for every main meal, and 100 calories taken in from snacks. Although this is also a low-carb diet, the meal plan still consists of carbs dominating the menu. Each meal should have 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein, and 30% fat. This is to make sure that your body still gets is energy from carbohydrates, and not from any other macro nutrient. The concept here is to control your level of insulin. As much as possible, you must keep your insulin levels low by following the recommended diet, and at the same time keep yourself from getting hungry. Being hungry means you are low in insulin, which translates to you being out of the zone.
The good thing about the Zone diet is that you can use this as a long-term solution for weight problem. Manuel Uribe is a famous follower of the Zone diet for 2 years running. He started out weighing 560kg (around 1234 lbs.) when he started. Right now, he weighs about 376 kgs (829 lbs), losing much as 184 kgs or 406 lbs in two years. The problem that most dieters face when following the Zone diet is that the diet can be very hard to follow. Another complaint is that the diet can be very expensive. Health practitioners also have mixed feelings about the diet because some of the food choices tend to increase the level of cholesterol in your blood. Before you jump into the fad wagon, try to study the meal plan. Check to see if you can find a way to make sure that you end up eating the right type of food that is most important for your condition, and see if you can adapt to the severe restrictions of the diet.
