The Fitness Mantra
Posted on November 07, 2011 by Dave W
Exercise is the word. Working out for 5 days in a week for about 45 minutes will keep you fit. You can join a gym, where the trainers will guide you with your work outs and various variations required in your exercise pattern. You can take up cardio training which mainly includes walking or jogging on the treadmill, cycling and the elliptical training. Rigorous cardio is a great way to burn calories, resulting in weight loss. Doing weight training with dumbbells and on other machines at the gym will help you tone the body. Fat will be converted into muscles. For best results, you can take up cardio and weight training alternate days, if you are looking for weight loss. Abide by the instructions of a professional trainer. Right forms are very essential in all your exercises.
Always listen to your body and never exercise excessively. Having a balanced diet, or should I say eating right is mandatory with your consistent workouts. Junk food like burgers, French fries, chips; aerated drinks are a complete no. Junk food has high levels of saturated fats or too much salt or sugar. It has no nutritional value and contains empty calories. Have green leafy vegetables like cabbage, lettuce etc. They are a rich source of minerals (including iron, calcium, potassium, and magnesium) and vitamins, including vitamins K, C, E, and many of the B vitamins.
Avoid too much intake of salt in your daily meals since salt causes water retention and also contributes to blood pressure. Stay away from pickles, ketchup and sweetened sauces. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day so never skip breakfast. Never have large meals, try to break your meals into 6 small meals in a day. Keep your mind relaxed, life stress free and stay happy. Give up smoking, and reduce your intake of alcohol. Never indulge in drugs. Keep yourself active all the time. Stay away from food that contains unhealthy carbohydrates like white rice, white flour, and refined sugar. Include green vegetables, soups, whole grains like wheat, brown rice, millet, barley and salad in your diet. Water helps in digestion and also flushes off the toxins from your system. Drink at least 8 ounces of water daily.
With the mushrooming of gyms and health centres in every nook and corner, people are becoming aware about how important it is to stay fit. So people, strive to lead a healthy and a happy life.

Question about replacing lost salts through training?
I do a lot of cycle training indoors on a cyclo simulator and sweat loads can anyone suggest a good way of replacing the loss of salt during my gruelling 2 hour training sessions
Answer
1. sports drinks like gatorade, cytomax, or accelerade
#2. eat bananas afterwards for the potassium
#3. eat salty foods like pretzels or crackers
Make sure to wipe your bike down from time to time or invest in a sweat net, as you can corrode the finish of your frame with enough sweat.
