Staying Motivated to Eat Healthy and Workout is a Piece of Cake
Posted on May 14, 2010 by Dave W
A huge key to nutrition and fitness is motivation. I am also writing these tips specifically for the winter months. During this time of year it is so hard! You have a ton of holidays and family gathering s and friends getting together and who wants to be dieting or exercising? Well, we still want the results of feeling and looking great I have a few suggestions to not gaining 10 pounds from now until new years when you will say okay, now I will get serious. Why not look great through the holidays?
It is also hard because of the weather. Maybe before you could just hop on your bike, go for a hike, go for a jog or even a walk and now you just know you will freeze or possibly get caught in a torrential downpour. This is where home workouts can really be beneficial.
A huge factor for me personally is to have a partner that will be committed with me and keep me accountable. Knowing that someone else is in the same boat is so nice. Find a positive friend who is serious about sticking to a plan and you find that you just have to keep up your end of the deal.
You must set a goal for yourself. My husband has a great saying “always under promise and over deliver” don’t make unrealistic goals for yourself.
Sometimes you want to get into a routine that will build good habits for a lifestyle change but sometimes you have a goal that you are willing to get drastic in order to achieve. Know that with Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up you are going to want to schedule in some days where you will get to relax and enjoy eating whatever you want!
You will want to see some sort of ending point or reward. If you can afford to do this you should have a certain amount of money that would allow you to go on a shopping spree or maybe a spa treatment that you will want to help make your new look even better.
Plan your meals. It already is hard to eat healthy. Don’t set yourself up for failure by not having healthy food around. It is much easier to pop in a frozen pizza if you have not planned a nice healthy meal for the evening and all of a sudden you are starving! (you can tell I have been there once or twice) my husband calls it food mood.
Being deliberate and prepared to reach your goals makes your goal seem not so unreachable.
Try to work out in the morning so you don’t dread it all day. This way it may also not cut into time that you have to spend with your husband or your kids. I also find it nice because I can get my shower out of the way and I am much more awake for my day when I get a shower early on!
Have treat days, you have to have something to look forward to that are short term rewards so you can stay happy : )
If you have been used to caffeine in your daily diet I do not recommend going cold turkey. You are going to need energy to complete your workouts and continue to meet the other needs of daily life.
