Sports Science – It’s Not Rocket Science!

Sport science is not rocket science, but it might as well be sometimes.

According to Wikipedia the definition of sports science is….

‘Sport Science is a discipline that studies the application of scientific principles and techniques with the aim of improving sporting performance. Human movement is a related scientific discipline that studies human movement in all contexts including that of sport.

In the world of the super information highway are we in danger of suffering with information overload. In fact is this blog post only adding to the dilemma?

I will make this a short post then!

How do you know what to believe?

Take for example the debate on how much water we should consume on a daily basis.

Recent studies now show that the 8×8 rule may not be as cut in stone as first thought.

It was first thought that liquid from drinks high in caffeine and alcohol did not count towards our daily intake. Now however, we are told that mild alcoholic drinks like beer are ok in moderation. Studies also show that the 8×8 rule was for healthy individuals living in a moderate climate doing mild exercise.

I do not intend to recreate any such studies here as this information is easily researched.

My point is this, how do we know what to believe?

This doesn’t only apply to nutrition, but our exercise regimes come under constant scrutiny and what was deemed a breakthrough 5 years ago is superseded by the newest findings.

In conclusion I can only think of one piece of advice to give you….. KISS my saddle.
