Sidi Cycling Shoes Guide The Appropriate Shoes to Wear

Posted on June 27, 2011 by Dave W

Sidi cycling shoes are different from any other footwear because their structure and design are meant to make pedaling more comfortable. In this guide, you will learn how to fit the shoes well and how to choose the right pair. Let’s get started.

The sidi cycling shoes guide: what’s your cycling style?

Sidi cycling shoes can be chosen depending on your style of cycling. Nowadays, there are variants for cycling off-road, on-the-road, or for casual riding. Casual sidi cycling shoes have comfortable soles that are softer, which makes walking in them comfortable, too.

For racing purposes, wearing road riding shoes for cycling is advisable so you can pedal comfortably on hard terrains. They have nylon mesh uppers with the rigid soles although some variants have carbon fiber soles which are relatively lighter. You can also adjust these shoes while you are on the road to support your pedaling needs.

For cycling on soft surfaces like sand, soil, and grass, off-road sidi cycling shoes can offer you with a more comfortable way to pedal. They are stiffer compared to other shoes and they are also characterized with somewhat softer soles compared to the road riding shoes. They have higher traction and recessed slots for cleats and they can have shoelaces that are hidden under the tongue to protect them from damage and dirt.

Comfort is the key

In this guide, you are advised to buy comfortable sidi cycling shoes that are characterized by their snug fit with enough room for your toes to stretch or curl. Also, make sure that you can use the shoes for any type of pedal. Go for a pair with cleat slots around the arch and the toes. Soles that are moderately stiff should be useful for most pedals including those that belong to stationary bikes.

Could running, rowing and cycling machines in gyms be hooked up to the grid to provide energy?

Seems a waste to have all those people expending all that energy and not trying to capture it…. It’s certainly possible to generate energy from cycling, so why not?
Guardian Angel – omg – I want one of those soo badly!!!
Oms – you know how it is, one thing sparks another and before you know it…

Answer
You are really energy conscious today, Skidoo!!!! Most gyms have banks and banks of these cardio machines.

It is an idea I have looked into – Gyms should be able to harness the power generated by cycles and rowing machines, steppers and cross-trainers too – but don’t forget, running machines REQUIRE power to operate!

They could design a type of electrical services ‘battery’, which basically stores generated energy and uses it for local power etc – lighting, TVs, music – and during periods where there is little activity, back-up from the mains takes over.

I can only imagine there are costly retro-fit reasons why this hasn’t been done – modifying the gym machines may also invalidate equipment warranties, and I am sure there is a barrage of H&S legislation. Still, great idea!!!

James M:- Returning it to the grid would have no effect, but as I suggest the generated power could make some significant contribution to the running of the gym itself, if not adjacent buildings.
