Mountain Biking – You Don’t Have To Fly!

Posted on March 22, 2010 by Dave W

If you have tried mountain biking and liked it, you might be tempted to fly downhill at a great speed of knots.

The rush of adrenalin matches the rush of wind as you fly down your chosen route.

As a beginner you need to be aware of any hidden dangers on your route.

Speaking from experience you can easily get drawn into a false sense of security and speed and obstacles sometimes collaborate to make your exciting freefall become just a fall.

Mountain biking is a great way to keep fit, to visit your surroundings and to enjoy yourself, but flying downhill can be a very dangerous thing.

Learn as much as possible about your route in advance and don’t blindly fly down unchartered territory.

A high level of fitness is desirable if you are to enjoy mountain biking.

Endurance and stamina will come with practice but so too will learning which line to take and how fast to take it.

It is said, there are two types of cyclists. Those who have crashed and those yet to crash.

Always wear your helmet and if your mountain biking is geared towards those fast descents you may want to wear knee and elbow pads too.

Keep Moving
