Home Exercise Equipment for Cardio Workouts

When you go to the local gym, you might be amazed at the sheer amount of cardio machines that they have on the premises. Some gyms have what seems like acres of cardio machines. There are rows of elliptical machines, aisles of treadmills and rows and rows of stationery bikes. Each of these pieces of exercise equipment typically costs over a thousand dollars, so you can only imagine what some of these gym owners spend when they set up their cardio rooms.

You don’t have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to get great cardio workouts at home. There are some alternative pieces of equipment that only cost a few bucks but give you the same great results that you would get by using an expensive piece of cardio equipment at the local fitness center. Here are some inexpensive pieces of exercise equipment you can get to have some great cardio workouts without hitting the gym.

Jump Rope

Have you ever seen the physique of a professional boxer? Those guys are cut and in shape. One of the most popular exercises among boxers and other professional athletes is skipping rope. You can spend less than $10 and have a piece of workout equipment that gives you great cardio workouts all year long. Skipping rope is challenging, fun and it also burns calories like crazy. Start off skipping rope in one minute rounds with one minute rest periods to get a great interval cardio workout.

Aerobic Steps

Step aerobic classes were all the rage a decade ago but aren’t that popular now. If you go to the local sports store you can usually find aerobic steps for $20 or less. These little steps can be a great way to get in a serious cardio workout at home. You can find videos to exercise along with or simply start stepping up and down rapidly to get a great workout going. They aren’t fancy but they can be one of the best pieces of durable workout equipment that you ever buy.

Running Shoes

Nothing beats good old-fashioned road work for getting into shape. Instead of buying a treadmill that you don’t have room for, invest in a decent pair of running shoes and hit the local roads or parks for a brisk run every morning. Getting out into the fresh air and jogging or running for a few miles is a great way to shed weight and improve your cardiovascular health. Make sure that you have a safe area to run in and spend a few extra bucks to get decent shoes that are designed for runners.

    Jump rope is an amazing workout. The only problem I have with it is that its hard to keep at it for a half hour. It gets old quick.
