Cycling Convenience Affordability and Exercise

Posted on January 27, 2012 by Dave W

The majority of people who live in the city have lots of transportation options for getting around the city. Lots have their own automobiles, motorbikes, or scooters. And a lot of people take public transportation such as the bus, the subway, or tramlines. These are all decent ways of getting around, but cycling has a number of special benefits that make it the best form of transportation.

One of the good points of cycling is that you can get good exercise. Daily exercise is of supreme importance to your health, but the average person is full of excuses as to why he doesn’t exercise. Lots of people buy gym memberships and never use them. Other people commit to sports but fail to show up or often cancel. Lots of people jog but end up taking a day off. And the next they take a second day off. Then the next day they take a third day off. The issue is that they are planning to exercise, but they have failed to make exercise part of their routine. Commuting to work by bicycle is the perfect way to incorporate exercise into your daily routine. Because there are no excuses. If you are tired after work, you still have to ride home. There is no way around it.

An additional good reason to cycle around town is that it’s cheap. Paying for gas isn’t necessary, and that is a great benefit in today’s world You generally don’t have to pay for parking This depends on the city, but in many cities you can just lock up your bike on the street or a bike rack for free. To keep things affordable, the most important thing is to keep your bike from getting stolen! So I hope you get a good bicycle lock.

One more benefit of cycling is that it’s flexible. If you decide to ride along the beach instead of the street, hey you can do it. If you feel like taking a shortcut down a side street, then you are free to do it. You can walk your bicycle on the sidewalk. With a car those things are impossible, as they are with public transport. Sometimes that variety and flexibility of taking whatever route you want can take some of the stress out of your daily commute.

I own a car because I like to take roadtrips and head up into the mountains. But when getting around the city, my bike is so much more convenient and enjoyable than all of the other transportation methods. So if you do not own a bicycle yet, then I highly recommend you get one and start to get some enjoyment out of your travelling time.

Where to go in Catalunya to go cycling and enjoy the outdoors?

I’m searching for a nice place to go hiking and cycling this coming May in Catalunya and I’m going mad looking at so many websites – it seems everyplace is so nice – if you have been there so tell me about the fantastic places you’ve visted, thanks!

Answer
There are lots of places but it all depends on your abilities.

The Pyrenees and Montseny are great but I can also recommend inland from Tarragona..Scala Dei and the Sierras around Prades.

Try cycling around Barcelona on Sunday morning.

For wimps there is the promenade from Salou to Cambrills.
