There are many different kinds of bicycles. Most people have a standard picture of a bicycle in their mind, but there are actually quite a few varieties. There are also bikes that are meant for more than one rider, which are called tandem bicycles. There was once a bicycle constructed for 40 riders. Even within the somewhat standard two-wheel, one-passenger category, there are still some significant differences.

If you are fairly new to biking, getting more serious, or possibly just getting back into cycling after not riding for some period of time then it is very important to consider your personal riding style and preferences before deciding on a bike type, excluding the other bike categories and researching one particular bike type or bike category in detail.

If you do any type of night riding, it would be wise to invest in a quality headlight. I learned not to go too cheap on a bicycle light because the cheaper models barely light up enough for you to see what is ahead of you. A good high beam bicycle light will provide tons of light to see the road ahead as well as alert any oncoming traffic. The better quality lights usually require a battery pack that are rechargeable. The same goes for having a back light. These are not as expensive but are a good idea to have as the more light you have the less chance of cars not seeing you.

How your bike is set up has an enormous effect on how you ride. The position of the saddle [seat] and handlebars help to determine the type of performance the rider can expect.

If you are the proud owner of a cannondale m400 bicycle, chances are that there will be problems that occasionally arise. For example, how many times have you purchased a bicycle, rode it around and then suddenly, without any warning, had the chain fall off? It happens all the time and is incredibly annoying, especially if you’re in the middle of a busy intersection and are trying to cross the street. There are several different types of bikes. One-speed bikes and Three Speed bikes use 18 inch wide chains that use master links. There is one master link for each bike chain and they snap on and off easily. There are also two-piece master links, which can be opened by loosening the chain and then gently bending the link toward the outside so that the outer plat of the link is free to be lifted off. If you are not sure about the condition of the bike chain, DO NOT RIDE THE BIKE! You are not only putting yourself in danger, but you are also putting other motorists at risk who need to navigate around you at the last minute should something bad happen.

Have you ever noticed that if you take the same route to work day after day, you begin to recognize the faces and vehicles of your fellow commuters? One car will be memorable for its hubcaps, another for its bumper stickers. This woman is always putting on her makeup, that man is always screaming into his Bluetooth. But on my daily commute, there is one person who is memorable above all the others, because this man rides a recumbent bicycle to and from work. Now before you judge this individual as a freak, allow me to explain that I live in Seattle, home of health enthusiasts and liberal environmentalists. In this city, it is normal to have at least one person in the office who arrives and leaves on a bicycle. However, even in Seattle, recumbent cyclists stand out.
Tip #7
So, you have a cannondale m400 bike and it fits you properly. A good way to know if your bike fits you is that you can stand comfortably over the top tube with at least an inch or two to spare between your crotch and the tube. You should be able to adjust the seat so your leg is about 96% extended when it is at the lowest point of the revolution of the pedals. Here’s a good, quick method for getting your seat adjusted. Loosen the adjusting bolt a bit, then put the seat in your armpit and reach down to your crank axle. The point of your longest finger should be just about on the axle when your arm is stretched straight out.

What’s the best way to train for the swim leg of the London Triathlon (1 mile) – I need to be fit by August!
Swimming ability is not a problem as I used to train in a local club when I was younger. I am a member of a gym with a pool so what I would love would be for someone to give me some tips on an overall weekly training program that would raise my fitness and include pool work, possibly with gym machines as well.
Any other triathlon swimming tips also greatly appreciated (I’m entering as part of a team so no cycling or running for me!) – and yes, I do realise that the Thames is not the nicest place for a dip, but it’s for charity and I was drunk when I agreed to do it!

Week training schedule
Goals: Begin baseline workout.
MONDAY:
Lift: Legs (include abductors and adductors)*, Back and Abdominals. 2 sets of 10 to 12 repetitions for 2 exercises each body part.
Bike: 30 to 45 minutes
5 minute cool down!
Stretch: 10 to 15 minutes of FULL BODY stretching!
TUESDAY:
Swimming (freestyle )
200m warm up
Drills : 200m leg kicks/ 300m arm pulls/ 400m swimming/ 100m cool down
Stretch: 10 to 15 minutes of FULL BODY stretching
WEDNESDAY:
Lift: Shoulders, Chest, Abdominals. 2 sets of 10 to 12 repetitions for 2 exercises each body part.
Bike: 30 to 35 minutes(Upright Bike ) 5 minute cool down
Stretch: 10 to 15 minutes of FULL BODY stretching
THURSDAY: Track running 4km or treadmill running 5.5km
5min. cool down
Stretch: 10 to 15 minutes of FULL BODY stretching
THURSDAY : rest day
FRIDAY :Bike 45 to 60 min
Swimm: 800m (freestyle)
Cool down 5min
Stretch: 10 to 15 minutes of FULL BODY stretching
SATURDAY:
Lift: Shoulders, Back, Abdominals. 2 sets of 10 to 12 repetitions for 2 exercises each body part.
Bike: 60 to 70 minutes / Set the bike for an interval or hill workout
5min cool down
Stretch: 15 to 20 minutes of FULL BODY stretching
SUNDAY:
Do some water jogging 15min ( Shallow water slow jogging )/ 3min walking in shallow water
Drills : 400m arm pulls
100*4 fast swimm ( to improve your finish )
100m swimm cool down
Stretch: 15 to 20 minutes of FULL BODY stretching
