Bad Knees, Baby Boomers And Bikes

Posted on April 19, 2010 by Dave W

Are you a baby boomer? Do you have bad knees? Do you cycle?

As we get older our joints become less flexible. Moving through the full range of our joints becomes more difficult and any pain and stiffness seems to stay with us for weeks rather than days.

Is it time to hold our hands up, put our feet up and just accept the inevitable?

Not a chance!

With a good nutritional diet and plenty of exercise we can hold back the onset of time.

If you were born between 1946 and 1964 you can arguably be classed as a ‘baby boomer’.

Getting old does not mean we have to give up everything we enjoy, but sometimes we may have to re-focus our efforts elsewhere.

I used to run a lot, but find that my knees no longer want to join in.

Cycling is a great low impact form of exercising which is far less stressful on your knees than running.

Recently I have used glucosamine tablets and found that my ailing knees have eased over time.

You have to use them for a few weeks before they take effect, but they seem to have helped.

Another thing which I have noticed, losing even a few pounds of unwanted fat has helped my overall fitness levels.

I know it’s not rocket science but eating a balanced diet and exercise is really the best medicine.

We don’t need to try to make everything complicated. ‘Keep It Simple Stupid’ is the way forward.

Why not make life a little easier for ourselves as we endeavour to live forever.

Keep Moving

Dave W

I love my bike! I ride often as long as the weather is cooperative. Living in Upstate NY that means from Spring until fall. It is great for the knees! I don’t take glucosamine, but have plenty of friends that do and they love it!
